 "Post-Easter Parade"

A lady who once sang in a group in a dance band in which I played saxophone at what is now the University of North Texas, sent me some information on the very special man we remember at Easter. This lady who went on to sing with the Moon Maids with Vaughn Monroe's orchestra, youngsters may not know them, but she had some facts we should all know ... not just at Easter--should know every day of every year.

In chemistry, this man turned water into wine!

In biology, He was born without the normal conception!

In Physics, He defied the law of gravity when he ascended into Heaven!

In Economics, He defied the law of diminishing returns by feeding 5000-men with two- fish and five-loaves of bread!

In Medicine, He cured the sick and the blind, without administering a single dose of drugs!

In History, He is the beginning and the end!

In Government, He said that he shall be called wonderful counselor or Prince of Peace!

In Religion, He said no one comes unto the Father except through Him!

He had no servants yet they called him Master; had no degree yet they called Him teacher; had no medicines yet they called Him healer!

He had no armies yet rulers feared Him!

He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world!

He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him!

He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today!

His name is Jesus!

In many Churches, last Sunday should have produced one of the two top attendance days of the year. We haven't seen reports of national attendance but in many churches in America attendance figures are slipping. No particular denomination any more so than another and the Metroplex Dallas-Fort Worth area is no exception.

Many churches are holding at least one Contemporary Service, most on Sunday mornings, but some on Saturday night. Less formal, more musicians, coffee and donuts and soft drinks are also available in many of those services aimed at the younger families who choose to skip the traditional Sanctuary Service on Sunday mornings.

In the Southwest, weather could have played a role in attendance this year. As usual, some local forecasters had started talking early last week about a "wet" Easter, a "cold" Easter, and maybe even some "hail and snow" for Easter. It reminded me of what one of the longtime weathermen on Channel 8 in Dallas, when I was anchoring the news there, would say when he would get a call on Monday challenging his forecast for the weekend. His name was Dale Milford. Dale was from Bug Tussle, Texas and he would hear the listener out and then say: "You know you can't tell much about the weather any more since they took it out of the hands of the Man upstairs and gave to the Radio and TV people!"

What Dale said in those days still holds true today. Who knows how many people make weekend
plans from the midweek weather reports that start mentioning possible bad weather even if it miles off the west coast when they first mention it!

That's my time, I thank you for yours!
