"The Bug and Nostalgia"
It is called a lot of things: Asian flu, Virus and food poisoning.
But the most-used catch-all term for the
creeping-crud is "the BUG" and when you get it, you know you are in
for several days of uncontrolled body-cleansing like you haven't had
since getting ready for that last colonoscopy. Everything hurts,
don't even think of food, keep pouring clear liquids into your body.
Lots of clear broth, soup, Sprite or Seven-Up and medicines your
internist prescribes to help control the nausea and to cut down on
your trips to the bathroom.
You are told 'this bug"
is running rampant these days, if one in a family gets it chances
are several other family members will fall prey to this gosh-awful
stuff that makes you think you are going to die the first 36-hours,
then in the next 72-hours you begin to feel like a human being
again. The fever leaves, aches and pains slowly subside and your
brave nurse, your wife, is about 24-hours behind with the same
problem. "The Bug" this year seemed more vicious. Striking fast and
playing no favorites. It is cutting a swath across family, friends
and loved ones across North Texas and maybe elsewhere.
Two things you can do to get you through it all.
First of course is talk
with your Doctor. That is always a must with me, he has served me
well for more than 25-years and I am not about to change. His
assessment is always right on target. This visit by "the BUG" was no
different. Every hour was exactly like my doctor said it would be.
Today is my fourth day into this unwanted health bump in the road.
Back on a little solid food, don't overdo it and keep the clear
liquids as part of your daily regimen.
The second thing we found that helped is to be patient, use the down
time to recall nostalgia and things in your life you don't take time
to think about very often. Concentrate on living life one day at a
time.
Examples:
The most useless thing to do is worry! The Greatest Joy is giving!
The greatest Loss is the loss of self-respect! The most satisfying
work is helping others!
The ugliest personality
trait is selfishness! The most endangered species is dedicated
leaders! The greatest "shot in the arm" is encouragement! The
greatest problem to overcome is Fear! Most effective sleeping pill
is Peace of mind! The most crippling failure disease is Excuses! The
most powerful force in life is
Love! The most dangerous pariah is a gossiper! The most credible
computer is the brain! The worst thing to be without is Hope! The
deadliest weapon is the Tongue! The most power-filled words -- I
Can! The Greatest asset is Faith! The most worthless emotion is Self
Pity! The most prized possession is Integrity! Our most beautiful
attire -- A Smile! The most powerful communication is Prayer! The
most contagious spirit is Enthusiasm! And the most important thing
in life ...GOD!
And during this visit by "the BUG" we were reminded once again:
Life isn't fair---but it is still GOOD! So. no matter how you
feel--get up, dress up and show up!
These thoughts hopefully help you "de-bug" your life in case the
"creeping' crud" makes a stop at your place!
