Murphy Martin Commentary While Congress changed
control and we added another first when a female became Speaker of
the House; while President Bush shifted military leaders in Iraq
before publicly announcing his "new" plans for that area; while
numerous wannabe presidents became more public while looking for
financial and voter support; and, on a lighter side numerous NFL and
Collegiate football coaches began looking for new jobs after their
records for the season just concluding left owners and fans calling
for changes! And while the subjects we just mentioned were getting
the bulk of attention in news outlets something very different was
also taking place. Three vastly different men are no longer with us.
One was very wise; another was also well known but grossly
inconsistent, and the third was mean and evil. It would be a
mind-boggling stretch to find anything Gerald Ford, James Brown and
Saddam Hussein had in common! Thousands also filed past the body of James Brown in New York City and his hometown of Augusta, Georgia. The father of Soul music, R-and-B, and entertainer par excellence lived a life filled with alcohol, drugs and life on the edge. Michael Jackson was on hand to pay tribute to Brown as one of his mentors. Many well-known entertainers , politicians like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, and thousands of his fans, paid homage to the energized performer to never let a knockdown be a knockout....until now! And then there was Saddam Hussein, former dictator of Iraq, mean, vicious, who ordered the murders of hundreds of thousands of his own people in years past and was sentenced to die for orderingthe killing of 145-people who were found buried in mass graves. Hussein was hanged while cursing what he called the "American intruders" in Iraq. We are not granted the
right to judge, nor should we. But, the deaths within days of each
other of these three vastly different lives should vividly remind us
that each of us chooses the way we live our lives. And those choices
lead to what the God of our choice uses to judge us when we leave
this earthly life. Was The funeral of Brown,
with all it's theatrics, was befitting the excess of waste his life
unfortunately portrayed. Hussein was so wicked it seemed as if the
world breathed a collective sigh of relief at the announcement of
his hanging death! That leaves the third man, not perfect but
righteous in his faith in Jesus Christ. Gerald Ford exemplified the
nobility of those who choose the right life choices and walk in
harmony with Him. We have to make those choices regardless of whom controls Congress, or, is Speaker of the House, or, is coaching our favorite football team. We control our own
destiny! We control our choices in life! THAT is really important! Your thoughts and comments forwarded to my website will be
appreciated. Previous commentaries: |
