"Holiday Surprises"
Christmas morning
arrived on schedule and we were blessed many times over with an
outpouring of love from family and friends.
After a special breakfast prepared by my loving wife of more than
four decades and special cards and gifts we didn't deserve, we went
to the computer and began clearing emails. And there was the
caption: Why I feel So Much Better! The Democrats promise "A New
Direction" for America! As we read this we remembered:
The Dow Jones is at an all-time high and America's 401-K's are back.
A new direction from that means what? Unemployment is at 25-year
lows, a new direction from that means what? Taxes are at 20-year
lows, a new direction from that means what? Federal tax revenues are
at all-time highs, a new direction from that means what? The Federal
Deficit is down almost 20% over the past three-and-one-half-years, a
new direction from that is what?
Inflation is in check,
close to the 20-year lows, a new direction from that is what? Not a
single terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11/01, a new direction
from that is what?
As we ponder these
facts, if we accept the Democrats promise for the NEW America....we
should expect:
The economy to go South; The Illegal's to go North; Taxes to go up;
Employment to go down; Terrorism to come in; Tax breaks to go out;
Social Security to go away; and Health Care to go the same way gas
prices have gone!
About the time we were
about to try to discern how all these new directions that head our
way in January are going to work, it was time to head to Texas
Stadium to watch the Cowboys clinch their first Eastern Division
Title in many years.
What we witnessed for
the next three hours was a team on the brink, look instead like a
team in the tank! Antonio Ramiro Romo did not have time to throw the
ball and when he did receivers dropped or had trouble catching his
passes. The Defense seemed totally out-manned. Bottom line--the
Cowboys were out-coached and outplayed in every area of the game.
Bill Parcells plans could not get the team a touchdown from one-yard
out in four tries. Terrell Owens did not "look" the ball into his
hands and had still another drop. Sure he had his excuses for the
media afterward----"they are not coming to me" enough.
Oh, the Cowboys will be
in the playoffs, but unless the Eagles drop a home game to Michael
"it's all about me" Vick and the Falcons next weekend, and Dallas
beats Detroit, and that's no gimmie, the 'Boys will be playing as a
wild card and not as a Division Champion.
The Dallas fans AND
Jerry Jones deserve better than what we have seen against New
Orleans and Philadelphia. Parcells finally said it right after
Monday's game: " It all starts with me!"
He's right. And Jones was right when he said the Christmas Day
Cowboy charade was "an embarrassment!"
After watching the Dallas disappointment at Texas Stadium it
reminded me that perhaps America was not the only candidate for "new
direction". At this time it seems obvious Sean Payton and Gary Gibbs
took enough "new direction" with them from Dallas to the Bayou City
when they departed the Cowboy coaching staff to rebuild the Saints
of New Orleans! From 3-13 last year to a Division winner this year!
Bill Parcells may be too set in his ways to admit he missed Payton
and Gibbs this season. But we doubt Jerry Jones is!
When "new direction" is mentioned, I'm sure President Bush AND the
DEMOCRATS, and Bill Parcells look at
the subject differently--and they should! To one it's just a game.
To the others, it's our future!
