 "Today is Special"

Some things seem to never change. The political party out of power in Washington still blames the party in power for everything that plagues America today. Sagging economy. Skyrocketing medical costs. A costly war that seemingly will never end. Leaky borders to our free paradise that allow illegal aliens to enter at will. It's been going on for years, if the Democrats are in control of the White House, Republicans are lobbing accusations about the weak do-nothing leadership in power. If the Republicans are in power, the Democrats are firing away.

Except for this time of the year---this DAY of the year. This day is special--it's Thanksgiving Day, a day when people of all political persuasion in Washington, Austin, Dallas, Bad Breath Arkansas---wherever we are from we can lay aside our differences and say thanks for what we have in this great land we call America.

A little more scarred and scared maybe than usual because of the ever-changing world that is ours in 2005, but still filled with love and respect for how we became the land of the free and the home of the brave and knowing full well we have reached some of our greatest moments when we seemed to be facing the most trying times.

Most of us can remember from whence we came, whether we were born in a small town or big city most of us had fiercely loving parents who worked long and hard so our lives would be better than theirs---and in the majority of cases our lives have been better. We have had more food to eat, milk to drink, more and better clothes than our parents had. Had better educations and anyone who wanted to attend college could find a way to do that.

We witnessed great successful corporations help fund medical research and new hospitals where hospitals had never been before. And we watched diseased people restored to full healthy lives.

We never backed down when attacked and we made our country the only country in the world where everyone was trying to get IN and no one was trying to get OUT. Yes today is a special day.

This is the day to pause and give thanks for all we still have as Americans despite the dastardly acts of 9/11. Despite all the suicide bombs our gallant men and women dodge in the Middle East . Despite the horrors left behind by record hurricanes this year. Despite displaced families who lost everything they owned. Despite road rage and shameless cell-phone users and even those who tend to forget this country was built on Trust in God!

So if you can pull yourself away from that Cowboys-Broncos game long enough, or that delicious turkey dinner, please pause and join me in thanking Him for all that is good and wonderful in our lives, health--family--friends. Food for the hungry, warmth from the cold.

Yes today is special! It's Thanksgiving 2005!

May every day in your life be a day of Thanksgiving!
