"Stupidity Loses Financing"
Some people never learn. Because they
are paid millions and millions of dollars does not make them any
smarter, brighter, or less likely to abuse the rules of society
.Unfortunately they all too often consider themselves untouchable
when their stupidity takes them over and above continued tolerance.
Terrell Owens is not the first athlete to thumb his nose at
everything around him when he does not get his way. He and those
other stupidity classics who came before him can join in singing,
what happened to the double-standard we all earned when we went to
that college which allowed us to take the weakest courses, with
special tutors to keep us eligible?
Then when the pros came calling with their deep sacks of money, now
we could really do anything we wanted to do without fear of
challenge because we were professional athletes.
I don't have to tell you but I will anyway--nothing Terrell Owens
has said or done in the NFL has earned him the right to continue to
draw the dollars he demanded....and perhaps could have earned if he
would have kept his stupid acts and statements to himself rather
than unleashing them at his team-mates, club owners, coaches or
anyone within hearing distance of his
double-standard-demanding-demented-mind!
Truth and loyalty are also foreign to Terrell Owens self-styled work
habits and their values. Case in point, Owens signed a a $49-million
contract with the Eagles in March 2004 and not long thereafter began
demanding to renegotiate that contract. He wanted more
money---somebody else was making more and he demanded the Eagles
renegotiate. This was finally done and just before the Super Bowl of
2005, Owens decided he was ready to play. Everything always on Owens
terms. No loyalty to contracts, coaches, club owners or fellow
members of the Eagles. "I'm Terrell Owens--I'm the greatest--I
deserve more acclaim when I catch my 100th touchdown pass than the
Eagles gave me", words like these led to another outbreak last week
that led to his suspension for the Washington game and then to his
credit--Coach Andy Reid announced this week that Owens was through
for the season. Coach Reid said "Owens was suspended for four games
and will be inactive for the remaining games this season." Then the
Eagles front office announced Owens would not be a part of their
organization again.
Sure, the Players Union will file grievances claiming Owens has been
mistreated etc. etc. etc. and all the other hogwash they usually
claim when a player is hit in the only place it hurts----in his
pocketbook. Sure--Owens brought out his speech-trainer agent Drew
Rosenhaus on Tuesday and helped Owens apologize to anyone and
everyone he had ever met. After listening to Rosenhaus, I'm not sure
but that he may have been a part of Owens problem.
Mr. Rosenhaus should have spent some time earlier while banking all
those agent dollars from Owens--schooling him on how to keep his
mouth shut. His apologies are TOO LITTLE-TOO LATE
Hopefully the many other candidates for stupid athlete of the year
can learn from Owens. You have no special privileges. There should
be no double-standards. Abuse is abuse and stupidity is stupidity.
If you don't want to lose all those wonderful adult toys your
millions are buying----straighten up! Honor contracts you sign! Let
your word be your bond!
Your fans will appreciate you more and your finances will not be
threatened if you leave your stupidity in the dressing room with all
the other dirty jocks!
