"Smiling Through Tears"
These
are special days. 'Tis the season to be Jolly. People rushing
through every spare moment to find that certain gift to make some
special person smile with appreciation upon receipt of each gift.
Most people are smiling and looking forward to Christmas but we
learned during the past few days some of those smiles shielded pain
and agonies for many.
The majority of people will enjoy holiday foods, family gatherings,
Christmas card greetings from longtime friends and they will enjoy
these things without pain, suffering or any major health problem of
self or close friends or relatives. But there are pains behind many
smiling faces and a multitude of thanks from recent recoveries.
We learned first hand while mingling with many friends and
co-workers before the Dallas Cowboys stopped the Packer's winning
streak and handed the Jets their ninth loss of the season.
A former Cowboy player who later became a head coach of three NFL
teams was telling my wife and me how good she looked after just
completing 33-Radiation treatments following breast Cancer surgery.
Little did we know that his heart was heavy with concern for his
six-year old grandson who has Leukemia. He asked us to add young
Daniel, now facing chemo treatments, to our prayer list. We did and
we hope you will too. The food manager in the Press Box said his
wife is undergoing Chemo and Radiation also. We added her name. The
Joyous Season is also marked with pain for many. Ron Springs, former
Cowboy great running back lies in a coma at this writing following
complications from having a cyst removed from an arm. This following
the gift of a kidney from former team mate Everson Walls, a gift of
new life for Springs who is diabetic and had already lost one foot
before Walls stepped forward with one of his own kidneys for a
friend. There seems little hope for Ron Springs survival but the
pain Walls feels is not for himself giving a kidney that is no
longer providing the great hope...Wall's pain is still for his
friend Ron Springs.
Prior to
most Cowboy games you can see the big smiles of youngsters as their
picture is snapped as Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones kneels by their
side. Each youngster is wheelchair bound but for those special
moments, they don't feel the pain, and part of a joyous season is
with them.
When we stopped to thank one of the longtime security men on the
field for his prayers for my wife, tears began flowing and he asked
that we pray for his sister. He couldn't finish the story, he said I
just can't talk about it right now...and turned and walked away.
Yes, many will be suffering during the Joyous days of the Christmas
season, but regardless of the pain, these people will manage a few
smiles despite their personal problems and they will give thanks for
the Christ child who sacrificed his very being so Christians can
have Life Everlasting.
One's prayer list seems to lengthen at this time of the year but
without a doubt, if we add those we know are suffering, He will hear
our prayers and those in need will be touched.
Now THAT makes for a Joyous Season indeed! One that will lead to a
lot of Smiling Through Tears!
That's my time, Thank you for yours!
