"Six Years of
Change"
Who can forget the
unthinkable events that happened six-years ago that changed America
and the world forever. Three sky-jacked passenger planes, taken over
by warped-thinking American-hating terrorist from the Middle East,
killed three-thousand innocent people in New York, Washington and in
Pennsylvania. The total number of victims would have been higher if
several courageous passengers had not jumped the sky-jacking pilot
and kept him from flying into a second Washington target.
The dastardly terrorist acts brought the free nations of the world
together as they had not been since WWII. The Star Spangled Banner
was welcomed and heard around the world. President George Bush,
bull-horn in hand, told the world that those responsible for the
September 11, 2001 acts would be caught and would be made to pay for
their unconscionable deeds
Most of the world coming together for a common cause doesn't happen
often. It happened during WWII in America. America remained unified
following 9/11 for two or three years before the Iraq War started
becoming a political football. But, there was something different
about politician's attitudes. They became more polarized in their
opinions. Bi-partisan became something seldom heard, much less seen.
The Iraq War was really secondary in the actions on Capitol Hill.
With the help of an accommodating press it has seemed to have become
a personal battle aimed more at getting George Bush, than taking
care of business in the Middle East.
General David Petraeus, head of U.S. Forces in Iraq was in
Washington this week reporting to Congressional Committees. He said
security was improving in Iraq and that the more elusive process of
overcoming sectarian tension to create a functioning political
system was beginning. Gen. Petraeus also said: "Premature" pullback
of U.S. Forces would risk catastrophe."
He did propose speeding up the withdrawal of 30,000- U.S. troops
deployed in this year's "surge" of force levels in Iraq, pulling out
about 2,000 this month and the rest by next summer.
Iran's "proxy-war" was also mentioned by General Petraeus. More than
a few people in America are more concerned about U.S. Forces having
to take action dealing with Iran sooner rather than later.
The bashing of George Bush will continue and Iraq will be subject.
The Democrats, who claim to have the answers, are crying for more
troop withdrawals than President Bush will ever call for in his
remaining days in office. The Democrats plan to ride Bush's
so-called "mistakes" in Iraq to the White House in 2008.
Lest they forget, often
there were more casualties in ONE DAY in WWII than we have had in
the entire Iraq war. One casualty hurts. But wars produce
casualties. America stayed the course in WWII despite heavy losses
in our military forces.
Could it be that
President Bush thought America would remain united while fighting
terrorism as we remained during WWII? But things are different
today. More people elsewhere in the world dislike our success. So
much so they will give up their lives using suicide car bombs or
flying sky-jacked airplanes into American buildings.
By the way, we have not had a terrorist attack in America since
9/11. Could anything George Bush has done have made that a fact?
That will depend on who you ask!
That's my time, thank you for
yours!
