Jeff Katz takes up the cause of Sanne DeWitt Sanne DeWitt is a 70 year old woman who survived the holocaust. She decided she would team up with Christians For Israel (Sanne is Jewish) and bring the remains of Jerusalem bus #19 to Berkeley, California. You may recall this was the bus that was bombed by terrorists last January.
Sanne wanted this to be an anti-terrorism rally and an
opportunity for all people to see first hand the devestating
effects of terrorism. She applied to the City Of Berkeley for a
permit to use Martin Luther King Park in Berkeley. She made her
initial application in July and since that time has been jerked
around by city officials who tried to deny her permit on the
basis that it might turn in to a "pro-Israel" rally and they did
not want that to happen in their park. They also told her she'd
have to buy two million dollars in liability insurance AND hire
her own security firm since they could not be sure the Berkeley
Police could insure her safety!
Well, Sanne spent her own money on this, satisfied all of their
requirements and jumped through all of their hoops AND they
still would not give her the permit!
I took up her cause and after a few days of talking about it on
the air AND urging my listeners to call, write and e-mail the
Berzerkley city officials, they relented and the Global
Anti-Terrorism Rally will take place on Sunday January 16 from
noon to 3pm at Martin Luther King Park in Berkeley. Sanne has
asked me to serve as the keynote speaker and, of course, I will.
One elderly holocaust survivor, a group of dedicated Christians
and a conservative, Republican Jewish talk show host banded
together with some great members of the Bay Area community and
stared down the idiocy that permeates the People's Republic of
Berkeley...score one for the good guys!!
