Russ Bloxom reports on the passing of Bill Hix, formerly of KXOL Radio, Fort Worth

Regret telling you that news buddy, Bill Hix, died last night.  In and out hospital last two weeks, had another attack, got to ER but they couldn't bring him back. Had had by-pass surgery year or so ago.

We visited at October KXOL reunion for which I am thankful we had the time for reflections.  We took group pictures and he took video.  We had talked about converting his video to the KXOL website. We worked together there and he, too, made the transition to Channel 5 (then WBAP-TV) in the late '60s like so many of the news guys at KXOL.  Eventually, Bill was weekend and early morning anchor at 5 and an excellant field reporter as well. His first big story at KXOL was the JFK assassination.

Wife, Sally, informed me this morning. Funeral tenatively scheduled 11am, Friday, at Christ United Methodist Church on Sycamore School Road in Fort Worth.

From the old KXOL news group during my stint, that makes three now gone...Bruce Neal, Gene (Ash)Craft and...Bill Hix, within last 2-3 years. I consider that we were like a band of brothers in the 1960s blazing local broadcast history and helping create new dimensions for electronic coverage of the news used today. We carried the same professional standards to Channel 5 always espousing what KXOL's owner, Earle Fletcher, instilled in us:   "First, get it right, then worry about being first!" As a reporter, no one did that better than...Bill Hix!
